Specifically, a 23-year study carried out by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health showed that those who frequently ate processed meats (cold cuts), and red meat were at a 22% higher risk of chronic kidney disease. On the other hand, participants who consumed high amounts of legumes and nuts were at a 9% lower risk of the disease. Plus, those who frequently ate low-fat dairy products were at a 16% lower risk of the disease.
